What's wierd is, the factory 'fix' didn't fix it at all. I'm going to have to take it back again and probably exchange it for something else. I sent the unit back for repair and four weeks later it came back from the factory. I've researched the blogs [.]. I got one about a year ago and it was silent and clean running (warm 'though).
and apparently (although I didn't know it before I bought the SR705) this HUM problem has shown up on units more than a few months old. The HUM was still there, as loud as ever, maybe louder. But about 2 months ago a HUM appeared and remained no matter what I did, including disconnecting EVERYTHING except one speaker and trying every other outlet in the house and turning off everything else in the house. Now, the SR705 is a beautiful receiver. Everything.
It's unusable as is.
This works perfect for our needs. It did take a while to get it working with our speakers but now it works great and am very pleased and would recommend it to anyone.
Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions. I guess that is why AVR's are not as mainstream as they should be. I am shocked to learn that AVR software is so outdated (like ms-dos) and no company has come out with better setup software and ease of use. I have a Orb speakers hooked up to this unit which sound amazing. This was my first avr purchase. Overall, I really like this system. The sound passed through this unit is very good.
As a summary, the product quality is not reliable and the customer service from Onkyo is definitely the worst one I ever met. Onkyo never considers its customers. The estimation of the damage is $200. One month later the master volume control refused to work. DTR technologies first called us to say our receiver got damaged on the shipping. We denied to do it and chose to discard the unit.
The whole repair process took us two and an half months, and it is very unpleasant and inefficient. And the shabby one totally denied to work about two and an half months ago. But we never knew it started a nightmare ever since. We agreed to cover that. We were surprised to see its short life time. We bought an Onkyo receiver 705 from Amazon about a year ago.
Fortunately it is still under warranty so we sent it back to DTR technologies which is the authorized customer service of Onkyo to get a fix. Then one more month later, we were told that we need to pay another $208 more and Onkyo will not cover that.
I've yet to hear back from Onkyo on support, but will probably cost me shipping and take many weeks for repair. Anyone interested in a refubished unit about 2 months from now.I expected better. old. It's just under 2 yrs. It's constant on all inputs (when signal is availble on digitals) and is the same level regardless of volume. I've loved this Reciever, till about a month ago a low 60hz HUM appeared. I eliminated the ground loop possibility. I've replaced it with a Denon.
